Text art includes: ASCII art, ANSI art, typographic art, typewriter art, emoticons and Twitter art. They are all based on keyboard characters, more or less. Text art includes more than ASCII art. But, ASCII art will come up first and be the largest part of the search results when you look up text art online. The Text Mode blog on Tumblr has a mix of text art forms and techniques. It’s worth looking through the current posts and the archives too. There’s also a Pinterest account. On Flickr I found a Text group with all kinds of art involving text. Another group for Text as Art. ... Continue...

One thing different about these sites from others online… these sites are still updating. The only exception is The ASCII Art Dictionary, but so much has gone into that site it is still worth seeing and a great way to find just what you are looking for when you have something specific in mind. Chris.com’s ASCII Art Collection by Christopher Johnson The ASCII Art Dictionary by Andreas Freise The ASCII Art Universe from Retro Junkie ASCII Art Archives for Recycle – Japanese style Text-Image.ru – Russian site with a variety of styles.

via – Tiger Ascii Macro | JustinAKAPaste.com (AOLForever). I’d forgotten when people made text art with AOL and called it ASCII macro art. It did not use a fixed width font so it wasn’t true ASCII art and each time you reposted it the font would cause your image to change (unless it was in an image file like this).

A. Hart continues the grand tradition of Pacer ASCII art with this masterpiece. Submitted 1 August 2000.Source: hart.gif (565×223) I found this online awhile ago. I tried to find the artist but didn’t get far. Not visual poetry but nice work as text art.

Not bad from an image to ASCII editor. But, I think it would be easier (or less frustrating for me) to create the image from scratch rather than to edit this one down. Still, pretty good text image from an original old newspaper ad I pretty much picked at random from my hard drive. Source: ... Read more...

I found this at Grmmxi. A site from Heikki Lotvonen, a coder and designer specializing in modular design and text art. Then I found the Glyph Drawing Club which has a blog site to post about text art and a guide to using the GDC.

Intended to be reposted to a game or some kind of site. Garden, fantasy, and holiday themed text art. Most of these are kind of messed up and none are traditional ASCII art. But they are kind of fun and might be inspiration for something simple to make. I found this rabbit which could be ... Read more

Karen Guise writes about saving wildlife, especially birds and bugs. Her art is unique. I’ve posted three, screen captures from a shop on CafePress. There are other animals: a turtle, a dragonfly which I saw on Pinterest, faces of wolves and bears, and probably others if you can manage to find them posted somewhere. I ... Read more
